A very rare piece, produced by Border Fine Arts for Autocar in 1992. It is based on the illustrations of F Gordon Crosby – a famous automotive illustrator who worked for Autocar. Dramatically shaped and tilted, this large figurine shows a vintage Bugatti taking a tight corner, apparently at speed. It’s beautifully sculpted – the initials DBS on the back indicate that it was designed by the famous ceramic artist, David Burnham Smith. The painting is detailed and of a very high quality. The model is in excellent condition with no noticeable chips, scratches or scuffs on the car, driver or road, and just some minor scuffing and slight chipping around the base and a scuff on the point at the edge of the “road”. The colours are lovely and strong with no fading. Marked “BFA Scotland”, signed DBS and MS, and carrying a replica of F Gordon Crosby’s signature. This is a truly stunning piece – perfect for a collector of F Gordon Crosby’s work, or a lover of vintage racing cars. No original box or packaging. Length (app): 14.25in/36.2cm.
